Yes, diabetics could have vision problems like early cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy leading to blindness. Diabetic retinopathy occurs when there is damage to the small blood vessels that nourish tissue and nerve cells in the retina leading to proliferative retinopathy with growth of abnormal new blood vessels in the retina. This could lead to blurred or double vision, flashing lights indicating retinal detachment and blind and black spots in the vision. In addition there could be bleeding indicated by a veil, cloud, or streaks of red, dark or floating spots in the field of vision, in one or both eyes indicating bleeding.
