The tests for diabetes would involve teats for fasting blood sugar, oral glucose tolerance test and random blood sugar test. Random blood sugar test measures the level of sugar at any time of the day regardless of when and what you last ate. A blood glucose level of 200 mg/dL or higher indicates diabetes. Oral glucose tolerance test involves your drinking water in which 75 grams of glucose has been dissolved. Two hours later the amount of glucose in blood is tested, with a blood sugar level of 200 mg/dL or higher indicating diabetes.

The third test, fasting blood sugar test is done in the morning after an 8 hour fasting period. A blood sugar level is 126 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or higher on 2 occasions would indicate diabetes, with a reading of 100 mg per dL to 125 mg per dL suggesting caution for diabetes.
